Legacy Business Park Plans Moving Forward

Legacy Business ParkPlans for Legacy Business Park, the proposed 5,000-acre commercial and industrial development in eastern Union County, are moving forward on multiple fronts:

  • Open public forums have been completed in six communities.
  • Meetings are now being scheduled with town councils throughout the county.
  • Although no announcements are ready at this time, productive discussions with strategic partners are continuing as planned.

The Need Is Great

  • The need for Legacy became apparent as the Union County Partnership for Progress wrestled with the challenge of expanding the county’s non-residential tax base so that there is a healthier balance between residential and commercial.
  • Currently families and homeowners of Union County are carrying an unsustainable share of the County’s tax burden, and Union currently has the largest per-capita public debt obligation of all the 100 North Carolina counties.
  • Union County’s economic future and welfare depends on resolving these critical problems, especially in light of the current recession and rising unemployment.
  • The Union County Partnership for Progress was established to help address these issues.
  • Working with economic development consultants, real estate professionals, local and state government officials and regional economic development agencies, the Partnership has determined that there is a deficiency in market-competitive industrial parks, office parks, industrial sites, industrial buildings and other non-residential properties.

BrochureA Transformational Solution

  • Legacy Business Park would be a bold, transformational, long-range solution to these problems.
  • At over 5,000 acres, Legacy would be the foremost location for business, industry and other non-residential tax base in the two Carolinas.
  • The Park could host more than $2 billion in new capital investment.
  • It could accommodate 20,000 jobs and sustain job development for many generations to come.
  • It could provide Economic Development opportunities in Union County for 30 or more years.
